Reviews of Camcorders

camuser.co.uk Title: Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD700

Pros: Head-turning price, Plenty of features, Great image quality

Cons: Fiddly controls, Sluggish autofocus

Verdict: Cheap it may be, but the VPC-HD700 is far from the performer we'd hope it would be. Low light and movement cause all manner of problems. Even for the less demanding audience it's aimed at, this is likely to still be not quite good enough

Summary: Now that the high-definition format war is finally coming to an end, with Blu-ray appearing to have beaten HD DVD into submission, high-def movies are far more likely to grow in popularity

laptopmag.com Title: Review of the Sanyo Xacti HD1000

Pros: Very good video quality, Well-placed, easy to use controls, Ultralight, pistol-grip design, Sharp 4-MP still photos

Cons: Difficult to hold steady, Some tearing in video

Verdict: Even with a skimpy software package that includes Nero 7 Essentials and Ulead MovieFactory 5.0 SE, the HD1000 is an excellent buy. We love the portability and video quality, and even the option to shoot stills while recording video. (The cam's 4-MP stills

Summary: Sanyo's HD offering imbues a classic cam with quality video performance.

cnet.co.uk Title: Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2

Pros: Small and light design; can shoot stills and video at the same time

Cons: Soft, bland video quality; slow to focus; irritating control stick

Verdict: The Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 fits hi-def video and 7-megapixel stills into a very small package, but its image quality disappoints

Summary: Sanyo's Xacti VPC-HD2 can record hi-def MPEG-4 footage at 1,280x720-pixel resolution and 30 frames per second, and shoot 7-megapixel still images at the same time as shooting video -- not bad for such a small package

techradar.com Title: Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG65

Pros: Very decent features, Competitive price, Great performance for the price

Cons: Average sound quality, Handling noise from mic placement

Verdict: On the flip side of the LCD are four slashes, which we hope will record high-quality stereo sound despite the likely proximity of our fingers. Following the curves down to the underside, you'll find the tripod bush and the all-important USB 2.0

Summary: For a gadget that fits snugly in your pocket, footage is top notch

cnet.com.au Title: Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA6 Review - Camcorders

Pros: Splash-proof casing, Small physical size, Records direct to SD

Cons: Buttons are stiff and unresponsive, Poor in-built microphone, Focus problems

Summary: Sanyo's VPC-CA6 excels at being small, portable and easy to understand. Using it, however, reveals more than a few flaws in the implementation of its design.
