Reviews of Blu-Ray Players

asia.cnet.com Title: Review: Panasonic DMP-DB30

Pros:  Excellent picture quality on Blu-ray discs; 1080p24 HDMI output; 1080p DVD upconversion; HDMI 1.3b-ready; outputs Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstream; Profile 1.1-enabled; SD card slot playback of HD video from AVCHD camcorders.

Cons:  No built-in high-resolution audio decoding; no network jack for firmware upgrades or future interactive content.

Verdict:  The Panasonic DMP-BD30 offers excellent video quality and is Blu-ray Profile 1.1-compliant, but those who want high-resolution audio will need a new-gen A/V receiver.

Summary: This Blu-ray Profile 1.1 player is the most complete HD kit to date with pristine 1080p24 video and high-resolution audio.

techradar.com Title: Panasonic DMP-BD10

Pros: 1080p picture quality, CD playback, DVD upscaling

Cons: Occasional crashes, No Dolby TrueHD or DTS master Audio

Verdict: Although BD is a fundamentally different technology to DVD, in use it's much the same, including the provision of a Setup button to configure the player for your display and audio system. It's all fairly straightforward

Summary: Blu-ray has arrived in the UK, if not with a vengeance, then at least a reasonably enthusiastic proclamation. Panasonic's DMP-BD10 joins Samsung's BDP-1000 at the forefront of the new format's invasion, and there's a sense that all the posturing and preva

zdnet.com Title: Panasonic DMP-BD50

Pros: First Profile 2.0-compliant standalone player; excellent image quality on Blu-ray Discs; onboard decoding for all high-resolution soundtrack formats, plus bit stream output; analog multichannel outputs; SDHC card slot can play high-definition AVCHD video.

Cons: Expensive compared with the superior PlayStation 3; standard DVD performance is lackluster; operational speed still sluggish compared with PS3.

Verdict: Excellent soundtrack support and Profile 2.0-compliancy make the Panasonic DMP-BD50 the most recommendable standalone Blu-ray player to date, but the PS3 is still better and cheaper.

Summary: Sony may be the face of Blu-ray, and Samsung made the first Blu-ray player, but lately Panasonic has been leading the technological race among standalone (non-PlayStation 3) Blu-ray players. Last October, the company released the DMP-BD30K, which was the
